S&M is part of BDSM, 

specifically meaning sadism and masochism, or sadomasochism.

Sadism and Masochism

The practice of using pain as a sexual stimulant. 

The sadist inflicts pain and asserts control over the masochist

Some variants of S&M include:

* 'CBT,' Cock and Ball Torture
* Asphyxiation / Choking
* Hot wax

- Sadism is best described as experiencing sexual pleasure from actions causing pain on another person. 

There are many degrees of sadism, ranging from just horsing around with scarves for bondage, bandannas for blindfolds, or spanking the butt of your bottom, to the innate desire to seriously injure, hurt or even damage others. 

The reality is that most sadists fall in between those two extremes.

- Masochism on the other hand is the desire to be controlled, humiliated or hurt, usually sexually, by someone else (usually a sadist). 

The masochist most often derives a great deal of sexual pleasure, even from the infliction of what can be intense pain. 

It should be noted that while many people have masochistic fantasies, few actually carry them out and fewer still discover that real pain is a turn-on.
